More and more people use mobile devices to access online content, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is permanently increasing. To meet this demand, the establishment that controls the generic top-level domain name extensions, ICANN, established the dot MOBI domain extension in 2005. The first registrations were enabled in September 2006, and the notion behind this domain name extension is that all websites that use it need to comply with certain requirements. In other words, all .MOBI websites ought to be developed to be opened correctly by mobile devices in accordance with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” established by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in collaboration with the dot MOBI Registry. These have to do with how a page is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.

The rules have provoked some questions because the top-level domain extension is the only one that specifies what devices should be able to access a website and the way in which this should happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a site should be created in such a way as to be viewed by the majority of web browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.

Because the dot MOBI Registry organization does not register domains directly, you can obtain a dot MOBI domain with any third-party company, such as ours.
